Pope was born in Collins. He was a Vice President of Pope Co a family business found in 1913 by his parents Mr. Mrs. George James Pope. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Covington County Bank.

He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of Covington County Bank which was chartered in 1975. He was a lifelong member of the Collins United Methodist where he served for 18 years as church treasurer and on the Administrative Council. Mr. Pope has been a operative Weather Observer offilliated with the National Weather Service for his outstanding volunteer public service. Mr.

Pope was a charter member of the Collins Rotary Club where he served in various capacities. Mr. Mrs. Pope were honored Christmas as serving as Grand Marshalls of the Collins Christmas Parade. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi in 1935.

He was a lifetime member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association. Mr. Pope also served in World War II. The Family request that memorials be made to the American Heart Association or your favorite charity. Billy M.

He graduated from State Teachers College in Hattiesburg, and received a master's degree in history from Peabody College of Memphis. He joined Jones County Junior College as, the head of the history department in 1930. In 1943, he became registrar, serving in that position until his retirement in 1969. In 1964, he was named Alumnus of the Year by the school. He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church in Laurel, and is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Patrick Blackwell.

Survivors include a son, Robert A. Blackwell of Ellisville; a daughter, Rebecca Blackwell Drake of Raymond; two brothers, Fred Blackwell and Hinds Blackwell, both of Hattiesburg; four sisters, Azaline Blackwell and Ruby Lee Risher, both of Laurel, Ida Blackwell Harris of Atlanta, and Tressie Webb of Kosciusko; and two grandchildren.
