No shelters are currently open.

In the event of an emergency or natural disaster, the Emergency Operations Center will activate shelters around the County. Not all shelters will open at the same time and will open on an "as needed" basis only. Stay tuned to local television, radio, and the Osceola County EOC facebook and twitter page to receive updates on shelter openings.

COUNTY SHELTERS

Osceola County shelters will only be listed upon their activation. It is the responsibility of the citizens to check local television and radio stations, the Osceola County Citizen Information Center at (407) 742-0000, as well as your weather radio and other resources for accurate, up-to-the-minute, open shelter location information when needed.

SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAM

Click here for details on our Special Needs Program. Florida Statute requires county emergency management to provide the leadership and direction to effectively care for the community of special needs individuals in times of disaster.

PET FRIENDLY SHELTERS

Osceola County Emergency Management in partnership with Osceola Animal Services, the American Red Cross, and the School District of Osceola County offers pet friendly sheltering. Only certain shelter facilities are designated as "pet friendly". As with all shelters, specific locations are announced prior to an event. However, in an effort to better help our citizen's plan and prepare for an emergency, the 3 "pet friendly" shelters are Harmony, Kissimmee Middle, and Liberty High. Emergency managers will still determine resource requirements based on the actual threat. If you intend to evacuate during a hurricane or other situation, please contact the Office of Emergency Management for specific details regarding pet friendly shelters at (407) 742-9000.

SHELTER IN PLACE

Many emergencies require you to shelter in place. Hazardous materials incidents are an example of an emergency which may require you to stay-put. Your venturing outside or going anywhere may pose a great risk to yourself or your loved ones.

When considering sheltering in place, again, you should have the necessary supplies on hand to manage your daily care. This includes food and water along with other everyday necessities. Make your disaster supply kit and keep an overstock of food-stuff items. Particularly those items that do not require cooking.

Should an event occur that requires you to shelter in place, officials will let you know at the outset on the best manner to manage the circ*mstances of the emergency.

Here is a brief list of essentials you may require:

  • Plastic Sheeting
  • Towels
  • First Aid Kit
  • Water
  • Non-Perishable Food
  • Flashlights
  • Fresh Batteries
  • Duct Tape
  • AM / FM Battery-Powered Radio
  • NOAA Weather Alert Radio
  • Activities for yourself and your children (books, games, etc...)
