The Atlanta Constitution from Atlanta, Georgia (2024)

1 THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, Saturday, March 5, 1953 Bank Folk To See Rob Suspects Special to The Constitution MANSFIELD, March 4-Witnesses to an armed robbery at the Bank of Mansfield will be asked to view two suspects arrested in Chattanooga, the FBI said Friday. The two were among nine prisoners who escaped Jan. from Telfair County prison bus. They identified as Henry Grady Armstrong, 38, and C. H.

Bartlett, 22, both of whom, the FBI said, fit the physical description of the bank robber. OTHER WARRANTS Armstrong, alias Joel Rogers, and Bartlett are wanted on a federal warrant filed Feb. 7 charging them with having transported a stolen automobile from Talbotton, to Opelika, the FBI said. They also are wanted by Alabama authorities on charges of kidnaping an Alabama state trooper on Feb. 1 and commandeering his automobile, the FBI said.

Ptl. E. L. Hanco*ck was one of a group of officers who had encircled an area near Camp Hill, where the convicts were believed to be hiding. He stopped a car at a road block and ordered the men out.

One threw a pistol on Hanco*ck and another took his revolver. TOURIST CAMP CAPTURE The men forced Hanco*ck to accompany them through the police net and then released him. When taken into custody early Friday at a tourist camp near Chattanooga, Armstrong and Bartlett were in possession of an automobile similar to one believed to have been used in a $6,300 robbery at the Bank of Mansfield Wednesday, J. K. Mumford, special agent in charge of the Atlanta FBI office, said.

Arraigned before U.S. Commissioner H. Arnold Morgan in Chattanooga, both were placed in the Hamilton County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond on the charge of interstate transportation of a stolen auto. Obituaries Mrs. J.
